LEADER of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom visited Botley to discuss Brexit and a major vote next week with a community group and business owners.

Mrs Leadsom was accompanied on the visit by James Fredrickson, who will stand for the Conservative Party at the next general election in Oxford West and Abingdon.

She visited businesses, the Branches Youth Cafe and the Westway development.

Mrs Leadsom said: “I’m delighted to be able to come to Botley today to speak to local employers, students and local volunteers.

“Uncertainty about how the UK will leave the EU has gone on too long and that was a clear message today.

“The Government is working hard to secure a deal. It was also great to meet the young after-school volunteers and to chat to them about my job as Leader of the Commons”.

Mr Fredrickson urged MPs to vote for Theresa May’s current Brexit deal to end uncertainty.

He said: “Speaking to businesses and community groups today, the over-riding message is that they want certainty."

Mr Fredrickson added: “Most people accept the result of the referendum, but they are crying out to have clarity about how we will be leaving the EU and on what terms. Until they have that, businesses are increasingly nervous about making investment decisions.”
