A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested after the attempted rape of a 21-year-old woman in a park.

The woman was walking in Park Hill Recreation Ground in Kidlington on Friday night, off Benmead Road, between about 8.30pm and 9.35pm.

Police said she was approached by a ‘young male’, who attempted to rape her before she managed to get away.

She left the park through the alleyway leading to Wise Avenue, and crossed the road to the next alleyway which leads to some garages and a car park.

The victim was not hurt in the attack.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault.

He has now been released on bail until March 15.

Thames Valley Police are now appealing for witnesses, or anybody who might have CCTV or her leaving.

Investigating officer, detective sergeant Mark Personius, of Banbury Force CID, said: “This was a concerning incident, but I would like to reassure the public that we have made an arrest in connection with it.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the park that night to come forward.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the victim leaving the park.”

The park is home to a children's playground as well as a nursery.
