LORD Mayor of Oxford Colin Cook is to host a special charity concert to support people suffering emotional distress or at risk of suicide.
The Labour city councillor is using his year in office to highlight the work of Oxford Samaritans staff in East Oxford, who provide support for people around the clock.
He is also supporting Oxford Nightline, a listening service run for and by students of Oxford and Oxford Brookes universities.
Mr Cook was a volunteer for Oxford Nightline when he was a student at Oxford University and is keen to promote local services which offer a non-judgemental listening ear.
The concert, called ECHO, will take place from 6pm on Saturday, February 16 at Oxford Town Hall in St Aldates. All proceeds will go to Oxford Samaritans and Oxford Nightline.
The concert line-up includes Armando Iannucci, creator of The Thick of It, Adam Buxton of The Adam and Joe Show, Philip Selway, Radiohead’s drummer performing with Laura Moody and Quinta, Croft & Pearce of The Mash Report and Sketchorama. Out of the Blue, the city’s popular all male a cappella act, will also perform.
