PEOPLE have one week left to have their say on a potential expansion of Oxfordshire's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

All 10 of England's National Parks and 34 AONBs are currently under Governmental review, which was launched by Environment Secretary Michael Gove in October.

In Oxfordshire, parts of the landscape protected by AONBs include the North Wessex Downs, which covers land south of Wantage and Didcot, the Chilterns AONB in the area south east of Wallingford, and the Cotswolds AONB which covers Burford, Charlbury and Chipping Norton.

In recent years, the Campaign to Protect Rural England Oxfordshire branch has raised concerns about thousands of homes being built on these protected areas, calling into question the entire designation.

The call for evidence from the public focuses on whether housing and transport in protected landscapes could be improved, how iconic areas can boost habitats for wildlife, as well as looking at whether existing areas could be expanded.

Responses, which must be in by Tuesday, will form part of the designated landscapes review, which will report back next year with recommendations.
