IT WAS all about people power this week as Oxford Mail Camera Club captured everything from crowds enjoying their favourite band to a father and daughter bonding over a big catch.

Many members chose to focus on big events in Oxfordshire, with the Cowley Road Carnival a popular subject for our photographers.

Shots that stood out included an image by Bob Sherlock of a colourful figure watching the parade from a window, as well as a shot by Lesley Murray of a smiling dancer dressed to represent the Mexican festival Día de Muertos.

Other event images we enjoyed included a vibrant snap by Derek Bird of English Civil War reenactors at Wallingford Castle. The smoke and large weapons help to create an atmospheric and striking shot.

Another snap that used smoke to create a dramatic image was Jo Sainz’s picture of music fans at a gig by Shinedown at Birmingham’s O2 arena.

The bright lights from the stage leave the crowd silhouetted, with just a sea of waving arms visible.

Silhouettes were also used by Jeff Higgs in his photograph of bird watchers trying to spot a reported Wax Wing, the sunset providing a stunning backdrop for the eager group.

The many tourists that flock to Oxford were also captured in many entries, with the Bridge of Sighs surrounded by crowds taken by Wendy Meagher a favourite.

We also loved Lee Yates' blurred image of people in the city centre, which helped to add a sense of movement.

The effect was also used by Billy Brunsdon at the Westgate Centre, with a long exposure shot of his mum in focus with the indistinct shapes of fellow shoppers in the background.

Shoppers also featured in Io Nutz's black and white image of Carnaby in London, the lack of colour helping the Christmas lights above to stand out.

Finally, we enjoyed Andy Bourton's unusual take on our people theme, turning himself into a crowd through a little digital magic.

Next week’s theme is architecture and we are sure Oxford's many impressive buildings are sure to feature.
