A MAN has been arrested following a string of door knocking scams.

It comes after another resident came forward to say he was deceived by a man who knocked at his door asking for cash saying he had been locked out of the house.

Police initially put out an alert urging residents to dial 999 if a man knocked on their doors asking for money.

This morning, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police told the Oxford Mail that a 44-year-old man, of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of fraud.

He is currently still in police custody.

Police are unable to confirm the identity of the man, as he has not been charged.

It follows ‘convincing’ scams from a sophisticated fraudster.

During the latest incident on October 27, a man knocked on the door of a house in Cowley Road late at night saying he worked at Keble College and needed help because he had locked himself out of the house.

He went on to explain that his mum had a spare key at her house and he needed to borrow some cash to get there and pick up the key.

The victim gave the man £30.

Thames Valley Police released details of a very similar incident that happened in Headington on November 3.
