TALENTED musicians from across Oxfordshire will take to the stage for their own performance of West Side Story.

Singers, dancers and actors from Oxfordshire Youth Music Theatre (OYMT) are preparing for their annual production later this month.

Pupils from 10 schools will tread the boards in the classic musical.

Angela Turton, head of Oxfordshire County Music Service, said: “The high reputation of the Oxfordshire Youth Music Theatre goes before it and the standard is incredibly good.

“Our young performers always pull out all the stops and put on a memorable show. I would urge everyone to come along to watch – you will not be disappointed.”

The youth theatre has recently performed shows including Hot Mikado and The Sound of Music.

Tickets for four evening shows are still available. They will take place from Wednesday, April 18 until Saturday, April 21 at 7.30pm at the Centre for Music on Bayswater Road in Oxford. There will also be a matinee performance at 2.30pm on April 21.

The theatre is made up of students aged between 14 and 19 and is accompanied by a band made up of young instrumentalists.

Pupils from Cheney, Didcot Girls, John Mason, Matthew Arnold, Gosford Hill, Langtree, Cherwell, the Henry Box, the Marlborough Church of England and Wood Green schools will all take part.
