England have picked three uncapped players in the first Test squad named by coach Peter Moores since his return to the job.

Opener Sam Robson and all-rounders Chris Jordan and Moeen Ali are all in line to make a debut at Lord's against Sri Lanka next week.

There is also room in the 12-man squad for seamer Liam Plunkett - who last played Test cricket seven years ago - and another pace option in Chris Woakes.

But Jos Buttler will not be making his Test debut yet, with Matt Prior fit after an Achilles injury to return as wicketkeeper.

National selector James Whitaker expressed England's confidence that they are picking players with not just the requisite ability, but who are in form.

He said: "We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of both the county and England Performance Programme coaches in helping to develop the talents of Sam Robson, Liam Plunkett, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes.

"All four have carried their exciting winter form into the domestic season to earn well-deserved recognition.

"We believe that this group of emerging talent will be very well complemented by the established core of experienced players that have been selected."
