NATHAN Lawless admits Abingdon need to improve their discipline after his side finished their BB&O Premier match against Chesham with 13 players.

The south Oxfordshire outfit, who racked up eight tries in a 60-5 victory at Lambrick Way, had replacement Dale Cross sent off and prop Lewis McKenna sin-binned in the final few minutes.

Chesham were also reduced to 13 men, with Will Goodes seeing yellow and Ollie Jaycocks red, but coach Lawless says it is important Abingdon keep their heads in heated situations.

He said: “Discipline towards the end of the game was a problem and is something that will have to be improved upon, but rugby is an emotional game.

“I am not glad that they showed such extremes of emotion, but at least we are emotionally involved in the game.”

Abingdon are third in the eighth tier of English rugby, with only six points covering the top four.

But Lawless insists his side are not thinking about finishing in the top two and the chance to step up to Southern Counties North next season.

He said: “The most important thing for us is to get people here on Tuesday and Thursday (for training) and get a community down to the rugby club and as a group we grow together.

“We have not sat down and said we want promotion, we want this, we want that.

“We don’t even sit down and say we want to win.”
