DIRECTOR of rugby Matt Williams says he is confident Chinnor can improve on a positive National League 2 South campaign after already signing two players for next season.

Winger Nevaro Codlin and fly half Mark Davies have joined from National League 1 side Cinderford.

Codlin, who represented England Counties in 2013 and 2014, scored more than 70 tries for the Gloucestershire club.

Former Bristol half back Davies, an old teammate of Chinnor player coach Junior Fatialofa, left Cinderford in February to take a break from rugby.

With Chinnor still eyeing sixth place ahead of their last match of the season at relegated Dings Crusaders tomorrow, Williams is looking for further development over the summer.

“We set our goal of a top six finish this season and I’m hoping we will still achieve this,” he said.

“We have the core nucleus of a great squad and with a few key additions I am confident we can improve on this next season.

“With Mark and Nev’s success in higher leagues, they will be welcome additions.”

Codlin added: “I’m looking forward to a new challenge and helping Chinnor achieve their goals.

“I’m excited to play with Mark again as we both know each other’s game inside and out.”

Chinnor have had nothing to play for other than their personal ambitions over the last month, and Williams has seen his side score 21 tries in the last three games.

Five points at relegated Dings tomorrow, along with Cambridge losing at Taunton Titans, would see them seal sixth.

Williams said: “I am very proud of the boys and the way they have finished the year because we have had nothing to play for on paper.

“We are also playing some of the best rugby we have all year.”

He added: “Saturday is the worst game we wanted because Dings will not want to finish their campaign at home with a loss – it is a very difficult place to go.”

Centre Jack Hayes will play his last match before joining Greene King IPA Championship side Rotherham Titans.

Williams continued: “I am very proud of Jack.

“He is very much a role model for boys at this level and will go on to good things.”

Chinnor have made three changes in the pack with Alan Cawston and Ryan Long returning, while Joe Pickett moves to tight-head.
