HENLEY Hawks powered to their biggest win of the season with a 48-19 hammering of Old Elthamians at Dry Leas.

Hawks ran in seven tries to make it eight wins from eight and extend their lead at the top to six points.

Captain Dave Clements was driven over on five minutes, with fly half Will Robinson converting.

Elthamians hit back with tries from wing John Webber and fly half Rob White, full back Tom White converting the latter, while Robinson kicked a penalty in between.

Hawks were stung into action, with full back Piers O’Conor racing in for a try.

Henley led 22-12 at half-time, thanks to a try from wing Fred Pierrepoint, converted by Robinson.

Centre Ed Yarnton set up scrum half Connor Murphy for try No 4, Robinson converting.

Hawks’ forward power earned them a penalty try, converted by Robinson, and a second catch-and-drive score for Clements.

Elthamians flanker Alex Tompkins went over, with Tom White converting.

Henley had the final say with a second try from Pierrepoint, converted by Robinson.

Thirteen-man Chinnor held on to beat Cambridge 23-19 in a wind-affected match at Kingsey Road.

The hosts led 23-0 at half-time, but Cambridge used the wind well and came close to victory as home full back Martin Nutt and prop Guido Cambareri were sin-binned.

Chinnor fly half Ed Keohane kicked two early penalties before they added two quick tries from their forwards.

Flanker Andrew Tibbatts scored from a rolling maul, while No 8 Alfie To’oala touched down after some agressive pick and driving.

Keohane converted both and debutant lock Toby Salmon added try No 3.

Cambridge replied immediately after the interval when wing James Ayrton went over for replacement Gerhard Boshoff to convert.

Scrum half Stefan Liedenberg, who created Ayrton’s score, added a second himself.

Cambridge made use of their two extra men on 77 minutes, with Boshoff converting full back James Stokes’s try, but Chinnor held on.
