PLAYING during the run-in meant Ryan Taylor felt he was a bigger part of Plymouth Argyle’s promotion this season than Oxford United’s 12 months ago.

The striker’s January move has paid off, scoring four times – including three goals in the last five games as the Pilgrims sealed automatic promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

It secured him back-to-back successes from the fourth tier, but the emotions are different, having watched United’s triumphant finish from the sidelines.

Taylor, who will get a winner’s medal if Argyle win at Grimsby in Saturday’s finale, told the Plymouth Herald: “I wasn’t involved as much as I would have liked to have been last season because I had an operation at the end of January.

“I had my adductor tendon cut in my groin.

“I feel like I have been more involved in this promotion, at a crucial time of the season, and we have managed to get over the line.”

He added: “I played quite a lot at Oxford, but that was at the start of the season.

“To come in and get the job done here (at Argyle), you are always going to feel more a part of it.”
