OXFORD United's hopes of bringing Tyler Roberts back on loan have ended after the teenager joined Shrewsbury Town.

The West Bromwich Albion forward, who turned 18 last week, spent the first half of the season at the U's.

Roberts made 22 appearances, starting six games and scored twice.

United were keen on renewing the loan for the rest of the campaign after the initial deal expired earlier this month.

But he has now joined Shrewsbury, who are in the Sky Bet League One relegation zone.

It is thought the Shrews have been able to offer Roberts, who did not start a league game for United, the prospect of more regular football.

The location may also mean he can commute from his family home in the West Midlands.

The U's host Paul Hurst's side on the final day of the season, April 30.
