JAMES Roberts could return to Oxford United action in three or four weeks after his hamstring injury was found to be less serious than initially feared.

There were concerns the 18-year-old could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after going down in pain during Saturday's goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon.

But after allowing time for the problem to settle down, the injury has responded well to treatment and United hope he may be available for a return in time for the busy festive fixtures.

Roberts, who had scored three goals in the previous two games, told the club's website: "Even a couple of days later there has been progress so I will just listen to the advice, do what I need to do, and hopefully be back playing sooner rather than later.”
