JOSH Ruffels is hoping to continue his place on Gary Waddock’s teamsheet as the young midfielder aims to secure a new contract.

The 20-year-old has played every minute of the Oxford United head coach’s three games in charge and is looking to keep his place against Plymouth Argyle tomorrow.

Ruffels has been the biggest success story of the club’s first development squad season, making 30 first-team appearances so far.

Preliminary talks over a new contract have been put on hold to allow Waddock time to assess the squad.

And Ruffels, who is keen to stay, is hoping to make the most of any opportunity to impress.

He said: “I’ve got five games to prove myself basically.

“I’m taking it game-by-game and hopefully my performances will show.

“I’m happy at the moment and I want to stay for the future, definitely.”

He added: “The gaffer’s just told me to keep approaching games in the same way with the same attitude.

“I’m just trying to play my own game, being positive on the ball and keeping possession.”
