ADAM Chapman is desperate to help Oxford United get through in the FA Cup tonight to set up what would be a tantalising third round tie for the midfielder.

The winners of the second round replay with Accrington Stanley will host Sheffield United next month.

It is a prospect which excites Chapman, who came through the Blades’ youth set-up and captained their reserves before moving to United in 2009.

The 23-year-old, who scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Aldershot Town, missed last season’s meeting through injury and is doubly determined not to be denied a return two years in a row.

He said: “It’s the second best draw for me, really, only behind playing a big Premier League club.

“I missed out last year because I broke my foot – I was gutted – so it will give me certainly an extra bit in the Accrington game.

“You can’t let yourself get carried away, you have to concentrate on the game first, but you wouldn’t be human if it didn’t creep into your mind.”

The replay was only secured by a 94th-minute header from Michael Raynes, which ensured the first game finished 3-3 at Accrington.

It was the defender’s first goal in three years and he has no intention of the run coming to an end tonight.

“You never know where you can go, every year you see teams surprise everyone with a mad run and you want to be a part of that,” Raynes said.

“Still being involved in the cups is a massive incentive for the players.”

Accrington were hammered 5-0 by United on their last visit to the Kassam Stadium in October.

After failng to finish the job in Lancashire their best chance to progress may have gone, but Liam Davis insists the memory of the defeat may help inspire the visitors.

He said: “Definitely, mentally they might be more on it and shut up shop in the way they set up.

“It’s a different day, we could easily say we’re in the box seats, but we know they are going to come and give us a tough game.”
