ISAAC Buckley-Ricketts is aiming to save Manchester City some money by proving himself on loan at Oxford United.

The 19-year-old is in the frame for a debut in Sky Bet League One against Bury tomorrow after getting to know his new teammates in training this week.

Buckley-Ricketts has not yet played a senior game for City, where breaking into one of the best squads in world football is a formidable challenge.

The winger, who has trained with Pep Guardiola’s first team, admits some players in his position would think it is mission impossible, but he takes a different view.

He said: “You can see it that they have an opportunity to buy all these players, so why should I work hard?

“But then you can also see it as ‘let me show them what I’ve got and why they don’t need to buy these players’.”

Buckley-Ricketts knows there is only one way to stand a chance of making an impact with his parent club – delivering on the pitch.

Although a loan earlier this season with FC Twente in the Netherlands did not yield as much game time as he hoped, the England youth international is unfazed by dropping into League One.

He said: “It gives young players hope because there are times where your main clubs and you’re not really seeing your path.

“I’ve always believed that no matter where you’re playing, people will notice good performances.

“For me I don’t really judge it from the level you’re playing at, as long as you’re putting your all in and playing well you will be seen.”

And for a player whose main weapon is pace, Buckley-Ricketts is also looking to be quick when it comes to integrating himself in the U’s squad.

He said: “I just see it as coming in straight away and getting familiar with the team.

“You play your best when you’re happiest.

“If you’re uncomfortable and not sure what you want to say, you’re not going to be focused on the pitch.”
