RYAN Taylor and Patrick Hoban were both on target as Oxford United’s development XI beat Barnet 4-2 in a friendly today.

Taylor, yet to score for the first team since joining from Portsmouth in the summer, bagged a brace, with Hoban and Sam Humphreys adding other goals.

Taylor opened the scoring with a near-post finish after good work on the left from Freddie Grant.

The striker made it 2-0 inside the first ten minutes when he smashed a rising effort into the roof of the net from 18 yards after being played in by AJ George.

Aidan Hawtin crossed for Hoban to head expertly home and although Barnet pulled it back to 3-2, Humphreys ensured victory with a fine finish.

“Ryan and Pat took their goals nicely and we were on top, but we let Barnet back in to the game,” said coach Chris Allen.

“But credit to the lads who raised their game and pushed on from there to score a fourth and win a game that we were always comfortable in.”
