TYRONE Barnett is out to make amends against Tranmere Rovers tomorrow as he returns to action for Oxford United following suspension.

The striker served a one-game ban for two bookings against Newport County a fortnight ago.

It saw him sit out the trip to Cambridge United, a game he watched live on television instead.

Unable to contribute, the 5-1 defeat hit Barnett hard.

He said: “I must admit firstly it was self-disappointment that I didn’t get to be involved in it.

“I felt like I’d let the club down, I wouldn’t say I felt guilty but I was very disappointed.

“I’m not saying one player can change the whole game, but you hope it would be a slightly different outcome.”

The suspension came about after the 28-year-old collected two bookings in ten minutes against Newport.

Afterwards U’s head coach Michael Appleton was critical of the decision for the second yellow card, which came about after Newport defender Darren Jones was sent to the ground after clearing the ball.

While it may have been a soft decision, Barnett disagrees with Appleton and thinks it is something he needs to work on.

He said: “I think in that game I was trying a bit too hard.

“As a result I got frustrated.

“The first one was a booking and the second one he made a meal of it, but looking back a good defender would capitalise on a yellow card.

“It’s going to happen and I’m just going to have to learn from my mistakes.”

Barnett is aiming to hit the ground running on his return to the side tomorrow.

He was brought in to help reduce the goalscoring burden on Danny Hylton, who has eight of United’s 14 goals this season.

The Peterborough loanee has netted once so far, but feels he is not far away from clicking in front of goal.

“I feel like I’m playing well, being a striker you’re judged on how many goals you score.

“If I can score a few more and the team can score a few more we’ll be looking up.

“At first it was settling down at the club into a new club.

“I feel I’ve settled down well and I feel like I’m playing well.

“I feel it’s a matter of time before they start going in like they used to.”
