OXFORD United have moved to boost their goalscoring options by signing Tyrone Barnett on a 93-day loan.

The 28-year-old, who came close to agreeing a move to the U’s on transfer deadline day last week, has joined from Peterborough until mid-December.

After a frustrating spell at London Road following a £1.2m move in 2012, Barnett is keen to get started.

He said: “I just want to get back playing and enjoy football, it’s been a while since I’ve actually enjoyed it on the pitch.”

Barnett’s arrival is a welcome boost for United, who earlier this afternoon announced striker Will Hoskins will be ruled out until January with a groin injury.

The former Crawley Town hitman is in line to make his debut away to Exeter City on Saturday.

It is a clash between Sky Bet League Two’s bottom two clubs, but Barnett insists he was not put off by United’s winless start to the campaign.

He said: “Not at all. Obviously it’s early in the season, so people don’t really look too much at the positions in the league, because they can change throughout the period of the season, so I didn’t really take that into consideration at all.

“The target is to stay injury-free, get as many minutes on the pitch as possible and as a striker I want to score as many goals as possible.”
