A brilliant catch on the boundary by Josh Megson clinched Banbury a 19-run victory at Potters Bar in rain-shortened Home Counties Premier League Division 1 match.

Chasing a target of 204, the home side were all out for 184 with six overs swill left when Megson caught George Scott.

Banbury made all the running in a match that was reduced to 76 overs, following an interruption of nearly three hours after a morning storm.

The Banbury batsman did not hang about.

Ian Tew made a fluent 55. But the real firewowrks came from Craig Haupt and Nathan Hawkes.

Haupt hammered 93 off 111 balls with four sixes and nine fours, while Hawkes thrashed 44 not out off just 20 balls.

That twin ass-ault enabled Banbury to declare two overs early at 203-2 from 39 overs.

Potters Bar’s openers got off to a flying sart with a run-a-ball stand of 71. But then left-arm spinner Luke Ryan sparked a dramatic collapse which saw six wickets fall for 14 runs.

The home side, needing victory to pull away from the danger zone, kept going for the target thanks to Scott.

But his enterpising knock was cut short by Megson’s catch.

Ryan returned 5-49 from 14 overs, while Hawkes, who had a good all-round match, ended with 3-39.
