Experienced trio Rob Williams, Daniel Rowe and Chad Keegan come into Oxfordshire’s side for the opening Minor Counties Cricket Association Trophy game against Cornwall at St Austell on Sunday.

They were unavailable for Oxon’s 50-over friendly win against Bucks at Aston Rowant last Sunday.

Dropping out of the 12 involved in that game are Banbury left-hander Craig Haupt, who it has emerged broke a bone in his right elbow on the way to making exactly 100 before retiring hurt.

Banbury duo Lloyd Sabin and Ashley Blanchard together with Oxford seamer Tom Geeson-Brown also miss out for the Group 1 clash.

Reflecting on Haupt’s injury – which is expected to keep him out for up to three weeks – captain Ian Hawtin said: “It’s obviously a big blow, but luckily, we’ve got plenty of strength in depth.”

And the good news for Oxon is that brothers Jack and Matt Taylor have been released by Gloucestershire for the game.

“I was very pleased with our performance against Bucks, it’s nice to get off to a winninmg start,” added Hawtin.

Oxfordshire, with a solid depth in batting, four seamers and three spinners, have a side ideally suited to this one-day competition.

Indeed they have reached the semi-finals three times in the last five years, but have yet to make it to the final.

Twelve months ago, Oxon missed on qualifying from their group on run rate.
