Banbury hauled themselves off the foot of South League Premier 1 by snatching a valuable point from their two weekend fixtures.

They went down 1-0 away to Oxford University on Saturday, but held Old Georgians to a 1-1 draw the next day.

With two games left, they need maximum points from at least one of them to stay up.

Some fine saves by keeper Phil Smith kept Banbury in Saturday’s game until the division’s top scorer, Adam Jordan, scored a drag-flick to seal it for the students.

Old Georgians scored after 20 minutes, but Banbury snat-ched a second-half equaliser through Adrian Simons.

Oxford Hawks, who celebrated promotion last week, remain on course for the Premier 2 title with a 2-0 win over High Wycombe.

The visitors tested keeper Phil Hargraves early on, but Hawks controlled the game, going ahead via Jack Biggs. Adam Le Page and Tom Coppin went close, but it looked like Hawks would have to settle for a single goal when they were awarded a short after the final whistle blew, and Biggs netted low into the corner.

Wallingford won a thrilling Regional Division 1 tussle against Chiswick 5-4 to end a run of three defeats.

Steve Marks put them ahead, but the Londoners were 2-1 up by the break and added a third.

With 15 minutes left, Marks sparked a comeback and two Tim Chamberlain goals made it all square.

Alun Lloyd then struck from a short corner to complete a remarkable victory.

Oxford’s double-header saw them win and lose – both by a 7-1 margin!

On Saturday, Dan Smyth hit four as they thrashed OMT, Dan Bleach (2) and Rich Beer, also finding the net.

However, they got a taste of their own medicine the next day as Eastcote reversed the scoreline. Smyth got the goal.

Bicester took the lead at Eastcote 3rd in MBB&O Division, only to go down 4-1.

Jonny Reid beat the onrushing keeper to give his side an interval lead.

Eastcote went 2-1 up and after Bicester’s CJ Birtles had seen his penalty flick superbly saved, the home side sealed it with two more goals.

Witney halted a recent poor run of results with a 1-1 draw at high-flying West Hampstead, Justin Peel scoring.
