OXFORD City & County made it three of wins out of three in the Oxford IBA competitions with a comfortable win in the triples.

Their trio of Sam Watts, Ray Gaskins and skip Mark Charlett triumphed 24-13 against Banbury Cross in the final at Chipping Norton.

Banbury had made a change to their playing order with AJ Docherty moving to lead and Mark Sykes taking over as skip.

But with Docherty finding Watts’s consistent drawing too hot to handle, and Lee Wilkinson unable to match Gaskins, Banbury were always on the back foot.

Sykes, despite bowling well early on, could not overcome the obstacles in his way and was forced to try more difficult shots as the match

progressed.

Five shots on the third end gave City & County the clear lead they were never to lose.

A double on the seventh end gave Banbury the jack and a change of playing length, while a three on the next end reduced Oxford’s lead to 11-8.

But that was the closest Banbury got, with the 12th end sealing their fate.

Charlett ditched the jack and then took out Sykes’s shot wood for four shots to extend the lead to 21-8.

Valiant Cross won the next two ends, before a three on the 15th clinched victory for City & County.

Only Carterton – in the pairs final – can prevent them completing a clean sweep of indoor titles this season.
