THE Banbury-based Haas team will face further sanctions after two embarrassing errors in yesterday’s opening Formula 1 race of the year in Australia.

Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean were running fourth and fifth respectively.

But both were forced to retire when the mechanics sent them out after their pit stops with loose wheels, caused by them not being positioned correctly before the nuts were tightened.

Team boss Gunther Steiner blamed a lack of pit stop practice as a result of time lost to fixing problems on the car during the weekend.

Both Enstone-based Renault drivers picked up points with Nico Hulkenberg seventh and Carlos Sainz tenth.

The Williams team, from Grove, endured a frustrating afternoon with Lance Stroll 14th and Sergey Sirotkin retiring on just the fourth lap.

Sebastian Vettel took victory after passing Lewis Hamilton during a safety car period.
