BANBURY United’s five-match unbeaten run came to end as Tiverton Town hit back to inflict a 2-1 defeat in the Evo-Stik South League Premier Division.

The fixture, which completed a trilogy of matches in the space of a week against the Devon side after the teams met twice in the FA Trophy, was decided in the last 20 minutes.

Levi Landricombe and Owen Howe struck for the visitors to cancel out Matt Peake-Pijnen’s opener for Banbury.

The Puritans started well, with Jefferson Louis heading wide on eight minutes, before the veteran striker fired another effort off target.

Ravi Shamsi, who was sent off in the midweek replay victory, saw his shot cleared off the line on 33 minutes after latching on to Peake-Pijnen’s cross.

And Banbury had another effort scrambled clear moments later as Tiverton also kept out Luke Carnell’s header.

Despite the chances, the first half ended goalless, but the hosts began the second period in the same vein.

Shamsi shot over the bar, before Louis hit a post.

Banbury eventually took the lead on 55 minutes, when Peake-Pijnen ran on to Charlie Hawtin’s pass and beat Martin Rice from a narrow angle.

But Tiverton equalised against the run of play on 73 minutes when Landricombe’s 30-yard effort sailed over goalkeeper Jack Harding.

The visitors then took lead with eight minutes to go when Howe headed home an Ollie Knowles free-kick.

Banbury searched for an equaliser, but Tiverton held on.
