WITNEY needed a late rally in the face of defeat to beat Swindon 27-22 at home.

Trailing by five points, a George Lewis try and Henry Lamb penalty in extra time saw the west Oxfordshire side triumph in South West 1 East.

Swindon led 12-0, thanks to tries from Mike Panaho and Oli Wilson.

But Witney levelled after Lloyd Allan and Alex Foggett crossed.

Swindon bounced back and Adam Westall converted his own try to make it 19-12.

A Lewis try reduced the arrears for Witney, only for Westall to nudge the visitors further ahead with a penalty.

Full back Lewis collected a long pass to sprint over in injury time.

Lamb converted to make it 24-22, before his penalty made sure of victory.

Grove and Oxford Harlequins played out an 18-18 draw at Cane Lane.

Two quick tries put the hosts into a 10-0 lead, but Quins responded when Jack Robinson crossed.

Andy Boyle drove over to level the scores and Archie Van Dijk’s try saw the visitors lead 15-10 at the break.

In the second half, Grove closed the gap with a penalty, before a second try gave them a three-point advantage,

But Ollie Jenner’s penalty earned Quins a draw.

Banbury beat Reading Abbey 26-17 at home.

Cash Chilvers powered over for Bulls, but they went into half-time trailing 12-7.

Chilvers scored his second try to level the match, but Banbury switched off and Abbey crossed again to make it 17-12.

The hosts stepped up to the mark in the last 20 minutes.

Dan Brady went over twice to clinch victory, with Ed Phillips converting three of Banbury’s four tries.
