BANBURY United fell to a first defeat in four games after a 1-0 defeat at King’s Lynn Town.

Toby Hilliard scored the winner with 15 minutes to go as the Puritans slipped to seventh in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division table.

King’s Lynn slightly edged the opening exchanges and with half-an-hour played, came closest to opening the scoring.

Puritans goalkeeper Jack Harding somehow clawed Leon Mettam’s effort off the line when the striker attempted to turn in a cross from six yards.

The second half started with some decent Banbury possession, but they lacked a cutting edge and were unable to penetrate the defence.

King’s Lynn soon reclaimed control, but despite forcing their visitors back, were limited to half chances.

However, the pressure told on 75 minutes when the home side’s patience was rewarded, as Hilliard struck from close range.

Banbury looked to respond and substitute George Jeacock set up Zac McEachran, who shot just wide of the target.

That was the closest Mike Ford’s side came as they were unable to find an equaliser.

Banbury Utd: Harding, Westbrook (White 72), Martin, Nash, Carnell, Odhiambo, McEachran, Self, Johnson, McDonagh (Jeacock 56), Browne (Bell 79).
