BANBURY were given a fright before securing a 35-run win in their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 match at Harefield.

The visitors got off to a flier with an opening stand of 90 between Hugo Darby and Craig Haupt, and with Australian under 19 player Kurtis Patterson adding a run-a-ball 36, they were cruising at 136-1.

But three quick wickets, including that of skipper Lloyd Sabin first ball, slowed their progress, and it needed Darby’s unbeaten 90 for them to reach 234-6. Harefield were well placed at 114-2, but Charles Hill’s run out of Ollie Richards for 57 turned the tide, and a tidy spell from Ollie Wright restricted them to 199-8.

Meanwhile, Banbury’s Luke Ryan hit 45 not out as Oxfordshire lost by three runs in their Unicorns Trophy Group 1 match at Wargrave.
