GOALS from Zac McEachran and Felipe Barcelos earned Banbury United a 2-1 victory at home to Shortwood United to consolidate second place.

The Puritans took the lead ten minutes into the Evo-Stik Division 1 South & West fixture, when McEachran netted from Barcelos’s pass.

Leading scorer Ricky Johnson missed a great chance to make it 2-0 just before half-time.

The second did finally arrive in the 69th minute, thanks to a superb goal from Barcelos.

Shortwood pulled a goal back through Will Morford, but Banbury finished on top.

The win kept Mike Ford’s side two points behind leaders Cinderford Town, who played one of their four games in hand at Shortwood on Tuesday.

Up next for the Puritans is a double header over the Easter weekend.

Tiverton Town visit on Saturday, before the Easter Monday derby at Wantage Town.
