Round-up

ANDREW Joubert’s late penalty earned Banbury Bulls an 18-15 home victory over fellow strugglers Leamington in Midlands 2 West South.

Banbury had to fight back from 15-3 down at the break and then withstand a final few minutes of Leamington pressure to claim the victory.

Leamington took an early lead through wing Jon Raby’s try, converted by Tom Jewitt.

Bulls looked rusty and conceded a second score to wing Tom Daplyn in the corner.

Full back Joubert slotted a penalty for Banbury, but Jewitt replied in kind.

Despite having second row Nick Pratt in the sin-bin, Banbury upped the tempo in the second half and Joubert burst through two tackles to score their opening try and make it 15-8.

With the game entering its closing stages, Banbury finally breached the Leamington defence when centre Peter Papenfus ran an excellent line to cross under the posts.

Joubert converted before slotting his winning penalty.

Gosford All Blacks shrugged off a three-week break without a game to win 21-12 at struggling Risborough in the BB&O Premier Division.

Fly half Harry Sutton set up full back Tim Ellis for Gosford’s first try, which Ellis converted.

The same two players combined for try No 2, with Sutton leading a counter attack from his own goal area and finishing after Ellis turned provider.

Ellis converted for 14-0, while Damien Brown replied with a try for Risborough.

Gosford had hooker Liam Donnelly sin-binned, but Sutton fed centre Chris Bennett to power over and Ellis converted.

Prop Will Betting grabbed a late try for Risborough, converted by Nick Grimshaw.
