A GOAL in the second minute of stoppage time condemned Banbury United to a 2-1 defeat at Biggleswade Town.

With the Puritans looking like picking up a point in their quest for the Premier Division play-offs, a cross from the right by Ryan Hoenes saw Robbie Parker heading in from six yards to earn Biggleswade all three points.

The hosts started strongly, Craig Daniel shooting just wide before Banbury keeper Jack Harding denied Russell Short with a low save.

They went ahead in the 32nd minute when a corner from the left led to an almighty scramble with Gavin Hoyte getting the final touch to knock the ball home.

Banbury rallied strongly.

Zac McEachran fed Ricky Johnson, who shot wide from a narrow angle, while Andy Gunn miskicked when clear.

However, three minutes before half-time, they were level when a free-kick from Marvin Martin on the right was only cleared out as far as Jack Self, whose 15-yard shot took a deflection off a defender before hitting the back of the net.

Banbury had the better of the second half without creating many chances

The best fell to Conor McDonagh, whose shot from edge of the Biggleswade penalty area was saved by keeper Ian Brown.

But the Puritans fell to a sucker punch right at the end.
