MIKE Ford was full or praise for new recruit George Jeacock after the young striker netted on his Banbury United debut.

The 18-year-old won the penalty which gave Banbury their first goal and then netted the second himself in the 2-2 Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division draw at Kettering Town.

Ford was impressed with the youngster, who joined on a youth loan from Oxford United.

The Banbury boss said: “As a centre forward, when you join a new club you want to get off the mark early and that’s exactly what he did.

“I thought that for a young lad of 18 he showed terrific maturity to come in and handle the occasion so well.

“If he does well here then hopefully we can keep him a little longer, but if he does really well he might go back to his parent club and play in the Football League.”

Midfielder Marvin Martin, who has returned to the club from Didcot Town, is still waiting for his first appearance, having missed out against Kettering with an ankle injury.

He is unavailable for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round trip to Cirencester Town as he is cup-tied.

Banbury Utd: Harding, White, Blackstock, Nash, Fawke, Gunn, Barcelos (Bell 58), Self, Johnson, Jeacock (Howards 84), Janes (Browne 74). Subs not used: Martin, Davies. Attendance: 480.
