BANBURY United secured at least a home tie in the play-offs after they took the title race into the final week with a 4-0 success at Yate Town.

The Puritans’ hopes of finishing top in the Evo-Stik Division 1 South & West rested on the midweek result featuring leaders Cinderford Town.

A win against Taunton Town, which was played after the Banbury Cake went to press, would wrap up the league with a game to spare.

Mike Ford’s men did what they could on Saturday in Gloucestershire, taking a first-half lead through Andy Gunn.

Ricky Johnson had two efforts disallowed in the second half, but the Puritans’ dominance was rewarded.

Zac McEachran, Mark Bell and substitute Charlie Wise were all on target.

They will be hoping to still have a shot at top spot when the regular season concludes at home to high-fliers Taunton.

But at the least they will finish in the top three, securing a play-off tie at the Spencer Stadium.

Banbury Utd: Harding, White, Hopkins, Stanbridge (Wise 76), Westbrook, Gunn, McEachran, Nash, Johnson, Howards (Joyce 71), Bell (Welch-Hayes 74). Subs not used: Browne, Blackstock.

Attendance: 205.
