BANBURY United are Oxfordshire Senior Cup champions for the sixth time following a tense 4-3 penalty shootout victory over North Leigh after a 4-4 draw, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Jamie Cook and Kieran Sanders put North Leigh two goals to the good, but Banbury hit back with a Jacob Walcott penalty and goals from Jack Westbrook and Leam Howards.

Captain Tom Ryan’s lastminute equaliser sent the game into extra-time and penalties – where the Puritans finally won.

North Leigh edged in front after seven minutes when Cook nodded home a Michael Hopkins cross.

They doubled the advantage in the 21st minute when Sanders scored.

Four minutes later, Banbury were awarded a penalty for a trip on Shepherd Murombedzi.

Banbury took the lead in the second half.

North Leigh equalised, with an attempted clearance bouncing off McNish.

He made it 4-3, only for Ryan to send the tie into extra time.

Leigh Bedwell was the hero in the resulting shoot-out, saving North Leigh's fifth spot-kick from Morgan Williams with the score locked at 3-3.

Joel Meade then blasted in the decisive kick for his side, handing Banbury a glorious end to a bad season.
