ANDY Melville has warned Oxford United ’s defence they will have to be on their guard to keep out one of npower League Two’s master goalscorers tomorrow.

Jamie Cureton is expected to lead the line for the visitors.

The experienced striker has netted three times already this season, taking his career tally to 229.

Melville, United’s first team coach, was heartened by the defensive effort to keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Swindon Town on Wednesday, but knows a similar effort is needed to keep the 37-year-old quiet.

He said: “Cureton’s a threat, he’s been around the leagues and played at a decent level. “It’s going to have to be more of the same from our defenders because he plays on the shoulder and likes to get in behind – he comes alive in the box.

“There are other players in there – (Arron) Davies and (Alan) Gow are decent runners with the ball and we just need to have the same mental strength as we had against Swindon.”
