Oxford City remain 15 points adrift from safety after defeat live on TV but manager Ross Jenkins said his side is not “down and out”.

Jenkins' side faced play-off chasing Halifax in front of the TNT cameras in a home league game in which they were beaten 2-0 after two quickfire first-half goals.

The Hoops sit bottom of the table, 13 points from their closest competitors Dorking Wanderers leaving them cut off from the pack looking to avoid the drop.

Jenkins said: “First half we played some good stuff but two errors from us that gave them two goals.

“At any level, if you give anyone an easy goal and then a second easy goal 45 seconds later, it is always an uphill battle.

“Apart from that we played some good stuff and we demonstrated we are not down and out.

“We have real confidence in our play. In the first half, we beat their press a number of times.

"We played some real good stuff and the boys are playing with real confidence and on the front foot.

“It was just those two goals really, they are our errors. If they scored some worlides or cut us open like they did a couple of times in the second half with some good play, then we can take it."

The manager added that the "belief hasn't gone" before admitting his side needed to "keep the crowd going" as he believed it was a "little bit quiet" during the game.

He said: “The message on the pitch is for the boys to be front-footed, ready to go and get in faces.

"The belief hasn’t gone, we need to make sure we keep the atmosphere here.

“We need to keep the crowd going and get behind the boys and be a 12th man.

“Today, it was a little bit quiet and I think the boys need, it as it is difficult for the players to keep each week in the National League, it is a tough ask but the boys are doing it really well.”
