OXFORD United boss Karl Robinson says he will always protect his club and players – despite being forced to watch last night’s Checkatrade Trophy victory over Fulham Under 21s from the stands.

The U’s manager was been handed a two-game touchline ban and fined £1,000 after a Football Association hearing.

His punishment comes after comments made following United’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley last month.

Robinson will also be absent from the touchline for Sunday’s televised Sky Bet League One game at home to Coventry City.

“I still stand by what I did,” he said before last night’s match.

“But I respect that certain elements of what I did weren’t right.

“I’m never going to change who I am.

“When I’m ingrained in something, I want to win for my club. If anybody stops it in a way that I don’t feel is fair, I will always stand up for my club, my players and the fans.

“That’s all I did. It’s only two games which isn’t bad and thankfully tonight was one.”
