CURTIS Nelson came through 80 minutes unscathed on his playing return as Oxford United cruised to a comfortable development game victory.

One of two triallists in the Uā€™s line-up scored a first-half hat-trick in the 6-0 win over the FFD TV Academy at Court Place Farm.

The main purpose of the game was to give Nelson game time on his return from a ruptured Achilles tendon in November.

Ivo Pekalski and Gino van Kessel were among the other senior players to get a run-out ā€“ and the pair combined to open the scoring in the third minute.

Van Kessel quickly turned provider for his strike partner on trial to make it 2-0 after six minutes.

The same combination added two more against the Londoners, while Van Kessel added his second goal before the front two came off at half-time.

Substitute Aaron Heap added a sixth goal early in the second half, but United were unable to add to their lead in the remaining 40 minutes.

Malachi Napa came the closest to a seventh, but his close-range effort hit the crossbar late on.
