OXFORD United’s long wait for a new manager could be resolved today.

Karl Robinson has this morning resigned as Charlton Athletic boss – paving the way for a move to the U’s.

The odds on the former MK Dons boss taking over at the Kassam Stadium crashed to 1/20 overnight.

And it was confirmed by the Addicks this morning.

Robinson said: "Moving on now was not an easy decision for anybody but it is what is best for the club and everyone involved."

Director Richard Murray said: “I’d like to place on record our thanks to Karl Robinson who has worked tirelessly during his time at Charlton.

"The club and Karl came to an agreement that is best for everyone involved."

It is understood he could be announced as United’s new boss today.

It is 59 days since United sacked Pep Clotet, with Oxford owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth stating last week he was finalising terms with his preferred candidate, who "would have a real 'wow' factor for the fans and send very strong signals out that we mean business and are serious about moving this club into a higher division".

Robinson, 37, took over from Russell Slade as Charlton boss in November 2016 but with the club on the brink of a takeover was believed to have offered his resignation to club owner Roland Duchatelet on two separate occasions before today.
