CAMERON Brannagan is in contention to make his Oxford United debut after a frustrating six weeks since signing for the club.

The 21-year-old joined the U’s from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee in January.

But the midfielder suffered an ankle injury in only his second training session.

Brannagan is now fully fit and is looking forward to the prospect of making his debut in tomorrow’s Sky Bet League One clash at Northampton Town.

He said: “I hate being injured.

“I was dying to show what I could do, and to get involved with the lads in training, and then the second session ‘bang’ it just happened.

“But that’s football, there’s many ups and downs, and I’ve got a long time here and I’m looking forward to it.

“Now I’m in training, I’m just enjoying myself and I’m feeling good.

“Come Saturday, hopefully I can get some minutes, we’ll see what the manager says, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

Derek Fazackerley confirmed Brannagan is in contention for a place in the matchday squad.

The caretaker manager said: “Certainly he comes into our thoughts this weekend.

“Whether it’s to start or come off the bench, we will have to decide.

“He’s got stronger and fitter as the days have gone by.”

James Henry looks likely to shake off a dead leg, but Joe Rothwell is out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Northampton are without Kevin van Veen (knee), Aaron Pierre and Aaron Phillips (both thigh), while Hildeberto Pereira returns from a ban.
