JAMES Henry believes Oxford United should be inspired by opponents Plymouth Argyle as they look for a morale-boosting result this afternoon.

The U’s campaign has hit the buffers in recent weeks, with five defeats in the last six games increasing the pressure on the side.

But their recent struggles do not yet come close to Argyle, who at one stage were cut adrift at the bottom of Sky Bet League One.

Survival looked the only aim for the Pilgrims when United thrashed them 4-0 at Home Park in November.

However, one defeat in 13 games means they could be in the play-off places today if results go their way.

Henry, who was on target at Home Park three months ago, pointed to their rise to show what could still be achieved.

He said: “We had a convincing win there but since then they’ve managed to turn it around.

“Ultimately we’ve got to be looking at teams like that and thinking ‘why can’t that be us?’

“Why can’t we put a run together in these last 14 games like they have and at least try to scare the play-offs and not be looking over our shoulders?”

To do that, finding a way to consistently produce strong results at home will be essential.

A run of five defeats in eight games has made the Kassam Stadium atmosphere tense – and Henry knows it must change.

“We’ve really got to address our home form, because it’s not been good enough, plain and simple,” he said.

“We’ve got to get bums on seats and start impressing at home, by putting in performances that our fans can be proud of.

“I don’t think it’s a difficult place to play, it’s just for whatever reason we’re not performing there.

“It’s got to change on Saturday because every team in the league will say their stadium should be a fortress.

“For us it’s probably been our let-down this season.

“It’s massively important we stick together, the fans included.

“If they can back us then ultimately it will help us.

“But we can’t blame things like that.

“We’ve got to go into every game thinking it’s the fans’ prerogative not to be happy with the way we’re playing, but we’ve just got to block everything out and perform.”
