JOHN Mousinho wants to use tonight’s game to get Oxford United’s frustrations from last weekend out of their system.

Two late goals, the first of which came from a collective lapse in concentration at a corner, saw Pep Clotet’s side slump to a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town.

It ended a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions and Mousinho is looking to move on quickly when the U’s visit Port Vale in the Emirates FA Cup first round this evening.

He said: “The FA Cup is good to get momentum and first of all we need to put last weekend’s result behind us and make sure we pick up a win.

“The discussion has been positive in terms of we went to Fleetwood and I think we dominated for large periods.

“We can learn from the fact that if you go to sides like that, don’t score and don’t create too many opportunities like we did, then the minimum we have to come away from the game is 0-0.

“Unfortunately we conceded from a set-piece and that’s something we have to learn from quickly.

“We’ve been very good from set pieces all season.

“It was very tough to take, but everyone’s regrouped and looking forward.”

Mousinho’s FA Cup debut came more than a decade ago – but the approach for playing a lower-ranked side has not changed in that time.

He said: “The Cup is a great leveller anyway and you never know what can happen in one-off games.

“We’re just going to have to make sure we’re focused 100 per cent on doing our job.

“They won’t be lacking in quality either, but the bare minimum for us will be to work our socks off.

“We have to do that every week anyway, otherwise we come unstuck. That will be the base we work off and Then hopefully we can impose a bit of football on them.”
