IVO Pekalski has become Oxford United’s 11th signing of the summer after moving from Halmstad for an undisclosed fee.
The midfielder, who has been capped by Sweden at senior level, flew in this morning to agree a two-year deal at the Kassam Stadium, with the option of an additional 12 months.
It will be the second time Pekalski has linked up with U’s boss Pep Clotet, having worked with him at Malmo in 2010, when they won the Swedish title.
He said: “I’m happy to be here.
“It’s been pretty natural I think, I’ve been in Sweden play there for 11 years.
“I started really early and I think I’ve seen every pitch in Sweden.
“I know all the players and I was looking for something which could be a big challenge and an adventure.
“I know Pep from before and I think he’s a brilliant coach.
“I’ve heard a lot about Oxford’s ambition to progress and I think it’s really interesting.”
With the Swedish league beginning in the spring, Pekalski is match-fit, but will not be considered for United’s Carabao Cup tie with Cheltenham Town this evening.
