BANBURY United’s winning streak in pre-season was extended to five games with a 3-0 success at Swindon Supermarine.

Tom Winters, Luke Carnell and Conor McDonagh were on target for the in-form visitors, who also kept their fourth clean sheet during the impressive run.

There was little to choose between the sides early on, but United went ahead in the 26th minute after Ravi Shamsi was brought down on the edge of the box.

Winters stepped up and his free-kick picked out the far corner of the net.

Having gone ahead, the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division side found their rhythm.

Sam Humphreys saw a shot roll just wide, before Shamsi had a goal disallowed for offside when he converted a cross from Jack Westbrook.

The dominance was rewarded with two goals in the space of six minutes early in the second half.

Another set-piece did the damage. This time Matt Peake-Pijnen’s delivery picked out Carnell to head in from six yards.

On 54 minutes it was 3-0, when McDonagh collected Leam Howards’s centre, side-stepped a defender and finished coolly.

Only an excellent save from Marine goalkeeper Connor Johns prevented Howards from stretching the lead just after the hour mark.

With the result beyond doubt, the game became a cruise for Mike Ford’s men in the closing stages.

The closest they came to another goal was a 77th-minute effort from Damien Robertson which drifted just wide of the far post.

Banbury will look to preserve their 100 per cent friendly record this week.

They host Kidlington tonight and Mangotsfield United on Saturday in their last warm-up games before the season starts at home to Dorchester Town on August 12.
