BANBURY were involved in a thrilling tie when opponents Henley struck the final ball of the game for four.

Going into the final over of the Division 1 game at White Post Road, Henley needed ten to win with six wickets in hand.

Richard West dismissed danger man Euan Woods, caught by Josh Megson, off the first ball for 83.

The batsmen crossed and Ziafat Ashraf struck five runs off the next four deliveries, leaving Henley needing six to win off the final ball and four to tie.

Tahir Afridi struck a superb four over extra cover to earn his side a share of the spoils much to the home side’s dismay.

So Henley finished on 195-5 from their 50 overs in reply to Banbury’s 195-7.

Put in to bat, the hosts’ innings was dominated a by a third-wicket stand of 138 between skipper Lloyd Sabin (77) and West (76) after they slipped to 29-3.

But despite a spell of 3-25 for Banbury by Brad Taylor, this could not bring victory

Horspath bounced back to winning ways with a five-wicket victory away to champions Finchampstead in a rain-affected Division 1 clash.

Chasing Finchampstead’s 154-8 in a match reduced to 36 overs a side after putting the hosts in to bat, Horspath were wobbling at 66-4, before debutant Mark Jefferson shared a fifth-wicket stand of 77 with Rameez Raja.

Jefferson hit 40 from 34 balls, with a six and five fours, while Raja finished unbeaten on 44 off 43 deliveries, to see the visitors home at 157-5 with 5.4 overs to

spare.

Despite a super innings from Jancan Adams, Great & Little Tew lost by 16 runs away to Burnham in a match, decided on the Duckworth Lewis Stern system..

Rain, which interrupted the hosts’ innings reduced the contest to 42 overs per side.

Burnham were bowled out for 150 in 40.1 overs thanks to top spells from Joe Thomas (4-28) and Ian Bryan (4-15).

Tew, whose adjusted victory target was 160 in 42 overs, crashed to 35-6 before Adams (73) and Andy Harris added 87 for the seventh wicket.

But they finished on 143-9 to lose by 16 runs.
