BANBURY United were unable to make the most of their chances as hosts Redditch United held on for a 0-0 draw on Boxing Day.

Redditch, just a point ahead of Mike Ford’s side in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division table, shaded the opening exchanges.

Banbury also lost striker Ricky Johnson to injury on 25 minutes, but despite the change the Puritans created the best chances.

Callum White should have scored ten minutes later, but he fired over with the goal gaping.

The visitors had the better of the second half, with Zac McEachran stretching home keeper Bradley Catlow, while Conor McDonagh also had a shot saved.

The Puritans kick off 2017 at home to leaders Leamington on January 2, who have not lost away in the league since September.

Banbury United: Harding, Westbrook, Gunn, Nash, Carnell, Self (Odhiambo 80), White, McDonagh (Browne 73), Johnson (Ofosu 25), McEachran, Martin. Subs not used: Bell, Humphreys.

Attendance: 402.
