BANBURY United manager Mike Ford is refusing to get carried away with his side's recent form.

The Puritans have been beaten just once in their last ten games in all competitions and are unbeaten in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division since the end of August.

Their current impressive sequence has moved Banbury to within reach of the play-off places, but Ford has no plans to revise his pre-season aims.

"My target is 50 points," he said.

"All I've said to the lads is to get to 50 as soon as possible and then see where we are.

"We'll raise a glass of champagne if and when we get there, but until then I won't be setting any more targets."

United have hit their stride in impressive fashion in the opening stages of the Premier Division season after winning promotion from Division 1 South & West in May.

Keeping faith with the majority of that successful side, Ford has since supplemented it with a handful of new additions – most recently with the arrival of former Oxford United full-back Eddie Odhiambo.

But the Puritans boss believes it was important that any changes to the squad didn't upset the ethos he has built at the club.

Ford said: "All the players we have here are ambitious and that's why they're at this club.

"Eddie's got plenty of higher-league pedigree and to have a player of his calibre has really rubbed off on the squad.

"But he's still ambitious and he wants to play as high up as possible.

"Every player at this club, regardless of where they've come from, should be looking to play higher.

"I don't want players to be thinking 'oh well, this is my level now', because they should be looking to play higher."

Ford also has ambitions to continue Banbury's rise.

And while his targets for this season remain modest, he still has high expectations of his side.

He added: "We're actually slightly disappointed with the points we've got so far, because we feel we could have had a few more.

"Every game we play this season we aim to get something out of."
