BANBURY United have received a cash boost after selling the naming rights to their ground.

An initial three-year deal is worth an annual five-figure investment to the Evo-Stik Southern League club, which will see the Spencer Stadium re-named the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.

Mark Allitt, commercial director at United, said: “We’re extremely proud of our Banbury Spencer roots, but we’ve found that since becoming a fan-owned club, the interest from the Banbury business community has soared.

“The fans took over the club last August and having now won promotion (to the Premier Division), we want to keep the club moving forward and we felt this was the right deal.”

The firm’s colours are red and yellow, which is in-keeping with the Puritans, who are looking at other ways to retain their links with the past.

Chairman Ronnie Johnson said: “We can reassure fans that we’ll be looking at some way of incorporating our Spencer roots into an area of the stadium, so that we always remember the history of our great club.”
