JOHNNY Mullins has joined Luton Town following his release by Oxford United earlier this month.

The centre back was the highest-profile player who was not offered a new contract, having made 149 appearances for the club.

Given his experience it was always likely Mullins, who wore the captain’s armband at Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final last month, would not be a free agent for long.

The 30-year-old will stay in Sky Bet League Two after signing a two-year deal with Nathan Jones's side at Kenilworth Road.

He told the club's website: "When a club like Luton gave me a call, it was a no brainer – I wanted to join.

"I’m here to achieve promotion, and hopefully to play in League 1 with Luton.”
